Magnetic Island Outrigger Canoe Club was formed in 1994. It was a new club established on Magnetic Island with a view to to bring more competition to the zone. After some time, the Magnetic Island Outrigger Canoe Club shifted it home base from Magnetic Island to the Townsville mainland. This happened for various reasons. Our Canoes are now located on Townsville’s famous Strand, on the beach behind the Tobruk Pool.
Magnetic Island Outriggers are made up of a wonderfully diverse range of individuals and are the clubs greatest strength. As a member of “Maggie” you will meet paddlers from all walks of life, social settings and professional backgrounds. These people make the clubs’ well being their responsibility and they work at building an environment whereby people learn, develop, train and race together.
New members are always welcome, so if you are curious about the sport or just wanting to get fit please come down to our training sessions and introduce yourself. We will be most happy to show what outrigging is all about.
The culture of Magnetic Island Outriggers is based on encouragement, support, personal challenge, development and finding out just how hard you can push yourself. It is a place where there is always a joke, a drink, laughter and a slap on the back for a job well done.
We compete in the North Queensland Zone of AOCRA. Monthly regatta’s (races) are held through out the North Queensland region (Rockhampton to Cairns) from January to August.
We have introduced a new fee structure for 2010 Membership. None of the Prices below include AOCRA fees. Please make sure you log onto the AOCRA Website and Join there as well. Otherwise you are not insured and cannot paddle. Currently AOCRA membership is $65

Competitive Membership entitles you to use of club equipment through the year at training and at regattas, and a club racing shirt . The Discount Competitive membership is for People who wish to join and race in 2010 and pay before 31st of December.
Social Membership entitles you to use the club equipment at training throughout the year, you are a non-competitive member so are not entitled to enter regattas. Social members can upgrade there membership at any time by paying $120 this will allow you to enter regattas and you will receive a club racing shirt.
